Weekend Recap July 5th-8th

July 10th, 2018

13u Lupke made fireworks of their own this weekend going 5-0 and winning the Bill Sturm Memorial championship. The offense created the spark they needed from a variety of contributors: Connor Hall (.667 avg, 11 runs scored, and 4 RBIs), Mike Lupke (7 runs scored), Haydn Burzynski (.583 avg, 5 runs scored, and 10 RBIs), Jake Kohlman (7 runs scored and 6 RBIs), and Joey Burgin (.429 avg, 4 runs scored, and 5 RBIs). The Orange pitching limited the opposing teams offenses with a group of five players who combined for 16 innings pitched, 16 Ks, and only 4 runs given up. Those pitchers were Jake Kohlman, Ethan Campbell, Luke Grubb, Ty Schwegman, and Joey Burgin. 13u Lupke has one more tournament left this season and look to finish strong.

Not only was it a great weekend for the 13u Lupke team, but for Haydn Burzynski and Tucker Mcvey it was another notch to their great six year Orange career. They represent the original Imavex Orange 8u team from six years ago.

Another team that played well this past weekend was 11u Schechter who wrapped up their season with a runner up finish in the Black Bracket of the NYB World Series. Pitching was key on the weekend, especially after a spectacular performance from Nate McGrath who produced five innings of work, while striking out four. Opponents struggled containing the Orange running attack as they ran wild tallying for a total of 58 stolen bases. Jack Jordan led the way with nine and Cole Schechter, Zach Mason, Tyler Sarver, and Ty Ruhl each swiped six of their own. On the offensive end, Jack Jordan again led the way with 6 hits and batting .500 on the tournament. Tyler Sarver had 4 hits and many others were right behind with 3 hits of their own. Callen Okerson and Cole Schechter led the Orange in RBIs with five and four on the weekend. 11u Schechter finished with double digit wins on the season and have a lot to look forward to next season.

13u Johnson wrapped up their season battling against many strong AA opponents, where they eventually ended up in the Bill Sturm Memorial semifinal. Coach Brent Johnson brought his trickery this weekend while completing a perfect steal of home with Mitchell Mainord and a suicide squeeze with Sam Johnson. The Orange capped off a marvelous season as they finished ranked fourth by USSSA in Class A.

In their final tournament of the season, 8u Sarver captured the NYB World Series Gold Bracket championship on a Wyatt Wilson walk off base hit! The Orange had a fantastic season, winning multiple tournaments and having a lot of fun along the way.

Our Team Prayer

"Dear Heavenly Father, we are so blessed to have the opportunity to play this wonderful game called baseball. We ask your blessings upon us today and that as we play and compete at our highest abilities we pray that you help each of us act in a way that is pleasing to You and that is also respectful and honorable to our opponents, to our coaches, to our parents and to the umpires. In Jesus Name we pray, amen."
